2021.12.08 08:45 AbyssalRedemption Need help deciding on career direction/ which master’s program to take
First of all, had no idea this community existed, what luck lol.
So, I’m 25, graduated from a private college in January 2019 with: a Bachelor’s in Computer Science with a concentration in software development, and three minors, in IT, IS, and cyber security. Within a few months of graduation, I got a job as in-site IT support at a distribution center. The job is pretty damn low-maintenance, and I’m not using any of the skills I learned in college (all we really use is the same PlSQL queries day-in day-out). I’ve been here two and a half years, and I’m starting to plan my out. However, I’m also planning to get my Masters degree in the near future.
My question is what direction I should go in regarding my master’s. I know there’s several specific sub-fields in the IT sector; since I graduation I’ve been adamant on following through with a Cybersecurity Masters, which my parents think is a good idea, given the demand in the field and the number of startups popping up. However, I recently gained an interest in Data Analytics/ Data Science, and one of these seems promising given my interest in problem solving and algorithms. I know there’s several others, but these are the ones at the top of my radar. Would anyone (preferably in the fields) be able to tell me their experience, and what I can expect? A general comparison would be even better.

2021.12.08 08:45 Commercial_Excuse676 Is it necessary to give a 2 weeks notice for subbing?
I understand that things will vary from district to district, but in general, if you're a per diem substitute teacher, is it necessary to give a 2 weeks notice, or do you just stop accepting jobs?
For me, this is job is humiliating and frustrating. I was going to stay until January when I start my new job, but I'd rather not be in a bad mood for the holidays. On the one hand, I want to "do the right thing." On the other hand, I don't want to feel like a moron handing in an official resignation notice for a position that's extremely low on the totem pole of a school's hierarchy. I can just picture handing the letter to someone in the main office, only to get an "umm... thanks..." sort of response.

2021.12.08 08:45 NotAnotherSystem Gear for working out outside in winter
Hi guys, since September I moved in Milan for studying and I started working out outside in a sport center near my house. But in the last few days temperature started to drop, and I have little to no equipment to have a proper workout session outside. Could you suggest me some gear that could help me? (for example, gloves for doing pull-ups, since the bar is too cold to have a proper grip with bare hands; etc...). How should I layer up? And, above all, how can I warm up properly? Right now I'm sticking to the RR, but every time I complete the warm-up I'm still cold. Thanks for the attention and have a nice day!

2021.12.08 08:45 Living-Ebb9400 Moderna booster after four months already
This place (previously at Gendarmenmarkt, now in Moabit) has been mentioned here already: https://wirbleibenstark.de
On their site, it says "ab 4 Monaten Abstand". You can book directly on their site, and now also on doctolib: https://www.doctolib.de/praxis/berlin/pop-up_center-impfzentrum-historische-fabrik
They have availabilities starting today. Please note that it is a Moderna-only place, so for 30+ only.
Other places I know that will booster you after four (or even three) months already are Havelhöhe and Praxis am Kleistpark. There, they also have Biontech for u30, but they don't seem to have short-term availabilities at this moment.

2021.12.08 08:45 QuestionOnlyDude [21M] What could be the reason behind people finding it uncomfortable talking with me?
I haven't had a friend for over 7 years who seemed comfortable and trusting. I am quiet but try my best to respect people. When I see other guys around my age being even more quiet than me, they are being treated with kindness as if it's nothing new. But towards me they don't seem to know what to say. I don't feel as if I am being offensive or too shy. People just seem to not be able to relate with me even though I can relate to them.
So I try to understand what it is so special about me. I am not trying to be better than anyone and if I have the feeling that people may think so, I try to give out a positive attitude. And that can work but only for a short time. I always say what is on my mind and that is the only thing that I feel is making people relaxed.

2021.12.08 08:45 ArthurMontgomary The second cold war
Since the collapse of the soviet union the united states had been the global superpower. In the early decades of the 2000s china started challenging its economic dominance eventually overtaking them to become the largest economy. It seemed inevitable that the two superpowers would become locked in a new cold war, in many ways they already were.
Climate change shattered this assumption. It is unknown exactly when humanity passed the point of no return but it was somewhere in the late 2030s. The resulting feedback loops took hold within years and the results decimated most of the world.
Costal cities flooded, mega-storms battered the equator. Droughts and famine destabilized whole continents. Desertification and ecological collapse took over the majority of earths landmass. Only country's far enough north world remain green and habitable. In just two decades geopolitics dramatically shifted.
After a period of mass migration where northern nations harvested the people they wanted from the climate refugees, borders were closed sparking the climate wars, which came to an abrupt end when the USA, UK and Russia performed a joint nuclear strike on the global south.
Russia, Scandinavia the UK, Canada and Alaska were now the only habitable regions and so the only nations that had survived. They became the new powerhouses. After these nations had stabilised themselves they started competing with each other.
The united states had now been relocated to Alaska and was a shadow of its former self. Its economy is a fraction of others. It military is large but ageing, consisting of equipment relocated during the climate collapse. They struggled to maintain their military let alone modernise it. They have been pushed to the side of the geopolitical stage despite attempts to stay relevant.
Scandinavian nations still have good quality of life and the thawing has been a boon to their economy opening up new fertile land and making it easier to exploit resources. They are still a part of NATO and field significant military forces but are not major players in geopolitics. Preferring to reap the benefits of the side-lines.
The big three are Canada the UK and Russia. All three are economic powerhouses but Canada is the largest, acting as the new financial leader of the world. They are the largest contributor to refugee resettlement programs as well as projects designed to sequester Co2, scrub pollution and regreen earth.
The UK is a technological leader with the most advanced military in the world. They are locked in a new cold war with Russia, with limited support from NATO. They do have internal problems because of their uniquely high population density. But still match Russia strength if not their numbers with their technological edge evening the playing field.
Russia has returned to the status of a superpower with their thawed land giving them access to immense resources and host a huge population. If it were not for the widespread corruption Russia would probably be the largest economy by far.
Everybody knows earth will be green again, humanity will eventually reverse the damage it did and the barren land will be valuable again. This dream is now the driving philosophy of global politics. resulting in huge land grabs by any nation that could enforce its claim.
The global south is now a chessboard between the big three. With many drawing comparisons to colonialism. Although each uses a range of tools each nation has disproportionally invested in a particular strategy.
Canada has used a strategy of co-option. Offering its finances and resources to existing owners of the land. This backing has allowed small pockets of people to remain in their decimated country's and hold onto their claim. And when they rebuild in the far future Canada will have deep economic, diplomatic and cultural ties to them.
While Russia has adopted a more direct approach using its resources to steam role remaining people. replacing them with their own loyal citizens. Enforcing its claims with police state tyranny to ward of insurrection and its huge military to dissuade international intervention.
While the UK has adopted a strategy somewhere in between using both the carrot and the stick. They do take over land and people but seek to assimilate them as UK citizens. Providing a much better quality of life in exchange for giving up their sovereignty.
While the united states and Scandinavian nations do have holdings they are a fraction of what even a single member of the big three has accumulated.
Huge pieces of land are traded like monopoly cards so the big three can make sets. But this cooperation is misleading. Both the UK and Russia are rapidly building up their huge military's. Tensions have begun to rise, both sides seem to be walking towards an inevitable conflict.
