2021.10.23 13:59 vomit-gold The changes happening to r/antiwork - Where are we going?
I have been in antiwork for over a year now. I remember in the beginning it was clearly anti-capitalist subreddit, not just focused on workers rights and the means of production, but also the true reduction of unnecessary work.
A large portion of the sub was centered on the eventual removal of jobs that unnecessarily require human labor, in favor of things like universal income. It focused on a future in which ones worth is not determined by ones labor, and the idea that one day labor would be contributed to where we need it, not where capitalism demands it.
Some consider it naive. Others consider it necessary, with the way of automation. Automation is near inevitable, so it comes down to us to determine what happens to the people it replaces.
That was then. With The Great Resignation , over 40 million people leaving their jobs, and strikes happening everyday, antiwork has now become the place on Reddit for workers rights discussions.
And with that comes change.
Recently, the sub has swung. It’s lively now, with over 100k new members. And it’s not surprising that many of those are liberals. Within the sub, more and more, it’s focus is placed on living wages, the right to not be shit on by bosses and degraded as a laborer first and a human second. It’s beautiful.
But I’m interested in where these two sides meet.
For those who have been here over a year: How do you feel about the new change? Are you uncomfortable with those who reject the subs initial intention, or are you open to the change? Do you think this swing in liberalism will damage or help the sub?
For those who are new: How long have you been here? What do you think of the subs origin? Are you open to learning? Have you’re views changed since getting here?
And finally, I will like to say, for those who are new: Those voicing the ‘original’ ideology of the sub are not infiltrating. We are not trolls sent to ‘divide and destabilize the community’. We have always been here. The ideology is not new, it’s not manufactured controversy, it is the history of the sub. And as the sub changes and grows, I hope our opinions can too, together.

2021.10.23 13:59 Ben69420 Question from Curious Outsider
I'm not part of this subreddit but it popped up on my recommended and I'm curious as to how yall think the economy should work. Hoping to get some thoughts below.
Whether people are capitalists, socialists, communists, etc., it seems every mainstream economic system requires people to work. If nobody works, how will essential goods and services get to the people who need them? For example, if farmers stopped working, who would grow food? If construction workers stopped working, who would build houses? If healthcare workers stopped working... well you get the picture.
I hope this doesn't come off as insultingly simple, I just don't understand how people would stay alive everyone stopped working. Looking forward to hearing some answers below :)

2021.10.23 13:59 Fowleri84 Testosterone therapy in combination with psycho therapy?
I'm 37 years old, 180lbs, average physique
The last time I had my testosterone levels checked was in 2018, they were 485ng/dl total testosterone and 9.8ng/dl for free testosterone.
I decided to test again 4 months ago, my levels were 375ng and 9ng. I tried to raise this by eating more protein, calories, fats, going back to lifting weights more often, trying to sleep at the same hour.
Two months later, I retested again, thinking it should have raised at least to 400s. To my disbelief, it actually went down to 340ng and 7.5ng. The normal range is 290-1100ng. I'm literally at the bottom, but according to the range, I'm "normal" but normal compared to who, a 80 year old man with diabetes?
These ranges don't take age into account.
This was 2 months ago, lately, these past 3 weeks, I've been feeling more tired than ever, my energy has reduced even though I'm sleeping at least 7 hours. I'm barely completing my work duties as a tradie, I have an active job always on the road.
I retested again today and should have the results next week, but I have a feeling it will be lower than before. My energy has reduced considerably since 3 or 4 years ago, coincidentally, since my first testosterone test in 2018. Not only that, I've put on weight since then more easily than ever and is really difficult to lose it.
I used to weigh 165lbs in 2018. This year I tried to lose weight, I dropped my calories to 2000, then 1800 and I would lose a couple of pounds at best, then gain them back easily if I ate a little more.
What's more puzzling is that my dad who is 70 years old, doesn't exercise, doesn't lift weights, is retired, and sits at home all day watching tv and at the computer, his diet is subpar american type, nothing special and yet he has a testosterone of 600ng.
I did a full thyroid panel with antibodies and everything came back as normal, but if it continues to go down like this, I'm going to have to use testosterone eventually.

2021.10.23 13:59 Muh_Ginga Globalization Vs. Local Economy
Dear Socialist/Communist lurkers and trolls, from my POV.
Our issue is not that Capitalism is inherently evil. Our issue is that humans are inherently evil, and selfish, greedy beings. Humans, and their emotions and desires, are the underlying flaw in any and every system.
We live in a society which is so expanded and broad, that no human is capable of comprehending it's complexities in their entirety. Thus, requiring the reliance upon individuals to maintain society at the vastest of scales.
The capabilities we have, and view as luxuries, are actually our greatest weakness. The broader and more complex any system becomes, inversely, the weaker and more vulnerable it becomes.
As someone well versed in the CyberSecurity of Enterprises and domains, I can assure you, we as humans function under the same principles as IT Networks.
A Local Area Network (Local Community), is always safest (economically) from outside attack. Unless one was to physically, in person, Brute Force their way into the Local Area Network, there is no way to effect each individual network (community/economy).
The moment this Local Area Network is plugged into the Internet (National/Global Society and Economy), the Local Area Network is no longer invulnerable to outside influence and attack.
You limit the capabilities and development of a computer by keeping it on a local network. But, by isolating computers to their local networks, you remove the capabilities of outside influence and ensure their intended functionality. As well as incentivizing users to take better care of the system, as it is in fact theirs. Owned and Operated locally.
Enterprise Networks, (or the internet), are owned and operated by corporations. Individual users have no responsibility outside of limited personal maintenance of their machines. (Which aren't even actually owned by them, because they are proprietary components of the Corporations.) No personal investment in the betterment of the system, nor any influence in the systems functionality. No ownership. Enterprise Networks, are also accessible by any and everyone in which is connected to that network. Meaning a user in California, with enough desire and drive, is capable of inflicting harm to a network in New York, Texas, Ohio, or even Montana.
"The Internet is Dead" Theory, is a very intriguing one as it speaks to this very issue. And one could correlate the same theory to that of the American Economy. A corporatized national shell of an existing system, with no life left in it. Ultimately, claiming that because humans resort to comfort, ease-of-use and certainty of functionality, people will always allow for corporatized ownership of systems, if it ensures that the system will continually be readily available. All while giving up control and say over the system.
So, the answer to your question, is localized free market economies. Giving up luxuries of certainty and comfort offered by global (or national) corporatization, and living within our means of that in which we can control and fully comprehend.

2021.10.23 13:59 zapfastnet Can any one advise me on how to get my Nest Thermostat to pump my heat to 74 degrees in the morning when it is set to 68? my settings in the text
Auto schedule - off Time to temp - ready Early On - off Sunblock -off Leaf -ready
Eco Temp 68 Max Safety Temp -- 45
Last winter when the winter winds were whistling under my door jamb I would turn the heat to 74 degrees for my morning coffee, but at this point of the year in the dirty Jerz I don't want my house pumped up to 74 on a day when outside temps may exceed that.
Thanks in advance for any advice

2021.10.23 13:59 ChainedEgo [PS4] [EU] plat 2 player looking for higher ranked players to help in duo's.
I'm looking for someone higher ranked who has great rotation, I think my rank should be a little bit higher (ik my level is bad anyway especially for how long I've played). My air game is not brilliant but I think my rotation is pretty good and it's almost impossible to find randomers that don't chase at my level. I will NOT bash you off the ball, chase your ball, rotate in front of you (failing to get boost and defend) and will take any constructive criticism well if you can help. As I said my air game not amazing but I'm at a point where I will stay on the wing for a pass if my teammate has a clear hit in defense and demo/bump leaving you the ball for your advantage. At my level the key to winning most games is just basic rotation. I will be playing in about 2 hours time, dm me your psn if you're interested.

2021.10.23 13:59 Wiedzemir Streak 2: Die Mensa

Hello!! I was in high school circa 2010-2014, and I remember being obsessed with this show that had a poem as music
Very simple costuming/mat and there was something to do with drawing the universe on the back of her hand so she could say she knew everything like the back of her hand?

2021.10.23 13:59 Chlorine-Queen Won’t stop floating following fridging due to ammonia spike
My 20 gallon tank housing one axolotl experienced a high ammonia spike (~3.0 ppm ammonia, no nitrites, 40 ppm nitrates) that I only caught once I noticed he hadn’t accepted food for a couple days and finally did the test.
I fridged him while I did several large water changes over 3 days, treating the tank with Ammo lock, dechlorinator, Quick Start, and Stress Coat before I put him back into the tank. (Only put him back after letting his tub acclimate to room temp after taking it out of the fridge)
Since I’ve put him back in he seems unable to stop floating at the surface and was being pushed around by the filter current, which normally he has no issue with. He still hasn’t been accepting food, so it’s been over a week since he’s eaten and I’m getting pretty worried. He’d was pretty well fed prior to this issue so he’s not visibly skinny, his gills are paler than normal (leucie) but they don’t look burnt or shriveled.
I turned off the filter for the time being but I don’t know where to go from here. He didn’t have floating issues prior to being fridged or while in the tub. I also don’t know what caused the initial spike, the tank has been established for two years other than draining most of the water back in July for moving house. I’ve been continuing the monitor it since the water changes and the parameters seem fine now, so I don’t know if this is a matter of waiting for him to recuperate on his own or if his health will continue to decline. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!!
Also- I put him in fresh, clean water treated with stress coat when I put him in the fridge. He didn’t poop at all during that time, which I didn’t think was too odd since he hadn’t eaten for a couple days prior to that, but now I’m wondering if he’s floating due to impaction? His tank has a fine sand substrate so I haven’t had impaction issues before but I guess it could be possible.
